Duplicate URL Audits for Export Websites: Product Pages and Campaign Parameters

One product can have several entry URLs. Separate distinct buyer experiences from duplicate addresses, then align preferred URLs, internal links and the sitemap.

Build a URL sample sheet

Start with one product family. Record its preferred product URL, category entry, campaign URL and internal search result. Add the title, main content, response status and current canonical to each row. Ask the product owner whether the pages describe the same model, commercial conditions and language before deciding how to treat them. This worksheet is an audit aid, not a list of URLs to add to the sitemap.

Choose a representative address

Google treats redirects and canonical annotations as strong canonicalization signals, while sitemap inclusion is weaker. Google still determines the selected canonical. Align signals for genuinely duplicate pages. Evaluate translated pages and different product specifications individually; a shared layout is not a reason to point every page at the homepage.

Check buyer and advertising journeys

Consider an illustrative URL such as /products/pump-a/?utm_source=campaign. Establish whether the parameter records attribution or changes the content. If it only tracks the source, the page can declare the clean product URL while preserving the attribution journey. Do not discard source information before the measurement system can read it. Treat product filters separately: does the selected combination deserve a useful, stable page of its own?

FAQs and acceptance records

Does adding a canonical immediately remove duplicates? No; review the actual selection in Search Console rather than treating a signal as a guarantee. Can robots.txt replace it? Google advises against using robots.txt for canonicalization.

Keep before-and-after samples and check content, canonical declarations, internal entry points and sitemap consistency. Record unresolved URLs for review. Without Search Console access, mark indexing conclusions as unknown. JUJING can assess the technical issues alongside your catalog and bilingual website SEO requirements.
