Export Website Redesigns: Map Old Product URLs Before Launch

A redesign needs more than a homepage review. Map old product, download and campaign entry URLs to their intended destinations and verify the actual visitor journeys.

Start with links sales still uses

Ask sales for public links used in quotation emails, catalogs and customer conversations. Combine them with the current site inventory and available analytics. Record language, content owner, purpose, proposed destination and review status. A page without available traffic data may still matter: a specialized model can remain an important technical reference for existing buyers.

Map by content relevance

Google’s migration guidance calls for URL mapping, testing the new site, configuring redirects and monitoring results. Our implementation recommendation is to assign an owner to each decision. Validate pages that retain their paths, confirm equivalent destinations for moved content, and separately review discontinued pages without replacements. Avoid handing the entire catalog to an unreviewed wildcard rule.

Test with purchasing scenarios

Test three representative journeys: an old quotation linking to a model page, an English category leading to specifications, and an advertising visit reaching an inquiry page. Check the final language, product identity, downloads and contact entry point. For campaign URLs, verify that required attribution parameters survive the journey. Send failed examples to their owners; a screenshot of the new homepage is not evidence that these paths work.

FAQs and launch sequence

Must every URL change during a redesign? Base that decision on business requirements; a visual refresh alone does not require new paths. Will rankings remain unchanged? Google notes that migrations can cause fluctuations, so stability cannot be promised.

Freeze the mapping decisions, complete testing and recovery preparation, then assign launch and verification owners. Check both old entry URLs and new pages afterward. JUJING’s inquiry website checklist supports the content and form review; migration scope depends on the existing site.
